Your First Visit

We want the first dental visit to be fun and enjoyable for the entire family! After arriving 15 minutes early for your appointment, our friendly front office staff will verify all of the necessary paperwork and any dental insurance you may have.

Your first dental visit allows us to gain an understanding of your concerns and establish rapport with your child. We will always take the time to learn about what makes your child comfortable, share preventive tips, and answer all of the questions you may have.

Recommended age of first visit

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child visit the dentist for an initial oral evaluation within 6 months of the eruption of his/her first baby tooth and no later than their first birthday. Starting dental visits at an early age can aid in early detection and management of oral conditions, establish healthy habits, and help develop a favorable impression for your child

What to expect

Your child will receive a thorough examination with Dr. Tello where she will discuss findings and offer recommendations on how to best care for your child’s teeth, and much more. Oral health education, brushing techniques, flossing, fluoride recommendations, and what to expect as your child grows are just some of the topics discussed during your child’s initial cleaning and exam appointment.

How to prepare

Your child should be informed of the visit and what to except. Reading books and watching shows with your child regarding their first dental visit helps to make it fun!

Refrain from saying scary words such as shot, hurt, pull, etc. as they can cause unnecessary fear. Our dental office makes a practice of using age-appropriate words that convey the same message but are more pleasant.

Often a child’s behavior is related to their parent’s own fear and anxiety, keeping a relaxed and positive attitude when taking you child for their visit is best!
